Cognitive mechanisms exploited
GeneralI just saw this almost one-hour talk of Andy Thomson on the American Atheist 2009 convention. He presents several mechanisms that make humans in some way perceptive and vulnerable to religious thoughts — brilliant!

New logo
designI’ve been trying to re-design this blog for some time now, but a recent visit to logopond got me thinking — why not start by designing a logo?
Here’s my current favorite:

Pale in comparison to some of the genius found on logopond, but still good in my opinion. The balance is a bit off, maybe I’ll put everything on one line instead of breaking in between. Or I’ll scrap it. Judging by how other attempts went, that’s quite possible.

What up? — Wordle.
CultureI could never get my head around this phrase, especially since MacFarlane et al proved that bird ≥ word. Nevertheless, I have found a funny application while browsing through the blog of a fellow researcher here in Tōkyō. The programm Wordle reads the content of a website, news-feed or whatever information you supply it with, and creates a nice picture that resembles the content of a website.
Since it is possible to filter out words that are common to one of the many supported languages, this thing is like some kind of buzzword-to-picture transformer. Well I like it and here is the result for S&C.org.
